Geraniums / Amélie au Théâtre necklace

    2010/07/30   (Edit)

    GERANIUMS

Also known as cranesbills, but called Pelargonium hybridum by the experts. From the Geraniaceae family, geraniums are originally from South Africa, but are at their most splendid in Portugal, as they are often seen on the façades of many a house in the country.

Whether in vases on windowsills, in flower-boxes on verandas, hanging baskets or in flower beds in gardens, they are usually red, pink, mallow, violet, white and orange with plenty of thick and tough leaves that are rounded and serrated. When they get sun and heat, they flourish, making the summer the season to enjoy them. If you’re wandering around the heart of Lisbon, stop by the florist Pequeno Jardim (where you’ll find the flower pictured) and take one home. They need plenty of light (ideally direct sunlight), lots of water, heat and, of course, love.

    AMÉLIE AU THÉÂTRE NECKLACE

The “Amélie au Téâtre” brand is one of the various projects of the multifaceted Amélia Antunes. Interior designer, founder of the mythical bar Fluid and the shop Happy Days, she is also an image consultant and someone who loves retro and vintage items.

In order to create the piece in the photo, she was inspired by the 1930s, coming up with this multi-string necklace with plastic beads that when it is around your neck has a cascading effect. If you want to order a personalised item or send some of your own accessories on a journey back in time, contact the Amélia directly through her site, explaining your ideas and preferences and she will give new life to your treasures. Talking about her ideas and creations, Amélia says: “Being unique, each piece is always multifaceted. Classic, kitsch or romantic, these things should always be wearable. Of course, the exclusivity and the sense of humour that the item boasts is equally important so that the person wearing it feels unique and special”.
